Lydia does not read a lot on her free time although, she does not hate it. If it is a book on a topic that she is interested in, than she does enjoy to read and will read it quickly and thoroughly. She learned how to read when her parents read to her every night and have her follow along and try to sound the word out. Lydia was also helped out by her teachers when they would do reading lessons in school. People read in order to gain knowledge, expand their imagination and connect with people on certain subjects that they enjoy. Some individuals enjoy putting themselves in a different world and to get the feeling of being someone else. In order to be a good reader, Lydia thinks you have to read things that are a little more challenging in order to push yourself. Also, maintaining focus and trying not to get distracted is also helpful. For Lydia, reading something about a topic that she is actually interested in makes it easy. Although, the hard part for her is reading some thing that she is not able to comprehend or reading something that she knows nothing about, so she is not able to relate to it. Lydia usually goes for fiction books about people that are around her age because she enjoys reading things she can relate to and will make her feel like she is really in the book. She also likes to read science fiction and occasionally, history. Good qualities in a book include something she can easily get entranced in and something that she can easily feel apart of. At home, Lydia does not read often unless it is a book for school or on a rare occasion she finds reading to take priority over other things. In general, Lydia does not mind reading but she often does not find time to read on her free time.
When she was younger, Lydia loved to write more than anything. On her free time she would write short stories and mini novels all the time. As she became older, the passion kind of went away although, she does still enjoy doing it when she has to and is not too bad at doing it either. She believes people usually learn to write by having lessons at school and just practicing. People write to let their creativity out, maybe to get something off their chest in a unique way, to provide entertainment for others, or to inform others about a certain topic. To write well Lydia believes that all you need is to practice and rely on a lot of the feedback that is received from others. Lydia likes to write research papers and nonfiction informational pieces the most. She likes for people to be able to learn something while reading her writing. To decide what to write about, Lydia thinks about the topics she is most interested in at the time and reflects on how she could get someone to learn something or how she could entertain someone but still get the point across. Responses that help her the most are constructive criticism remarks and questions the reader may have. Positive comments are always helpful too, for motivation and a self confidence boost. At home, Lydia has been writing pretty often by working on college applications. On a regular basis, she does not typically write for fun or for a hobby but she enjoys doing so when she has to. In general, Lydia enjoys writing but like reading, does not always find a lot of time to do it for fun.
